High Capacity Dell Laptop Batteries

With the progress of technology, the battery manufacturing process is more refined and improved. More powerful high capacity batteries are manufactured for laptops of different brands. That is to say, if your original battery is 4400mah, most likely that you are able to find a 6600mah or even higher 8800mah battery for your laptop. Usually, the charge of a 4400mah battery can last for about 2 hours, while the 6600mah or 8800mah can probably last for about 4 or 6 hours.(Anyway, how long the battery charge can last mainly depends on how you use it.) No doubt that everyone will prefer the super long lasting battery. Even if your laptop manufacturer does not offer extended life battery, you can find after market battery manufacturer come up with a much higher capacity version of battery that could work with your laptop. For example, 6600mAh extended Dell Inspiron 1545 Laptop Battery (9-Cell), while OEM (original equipment manufacturer) battery cost easily over $100+ at only 4400mAh.

Although the after market high capacity batteries are easy to find, there are still many consumers worrying about the quality of those Non-OEM replacement batteries. There is also another problem that we should pay attention. Some high capacity batteries may have a bigger size than the original standard one, because the high capacity batteries require more cells to be placed inside the battery. Anyway, considering the high prices of the original batteries, I will not hesitate to use an aftermarket dell laptop battery as long as the seller offer good return policy and good warranty on their products. Some reliable sellers can even provide one or two years warranty. Meanwhile, we could confirm the battery shape with the seller before purchase. If that is the case, why don’t we consider purchasing the high capacity dell replacement battery at a cheaper price?

Troubleshooting Dell Vostro 1500 Laptop battery Problem (Battery Won’t Charge)

Posted on October 11, 2010
Filed Under Dell Laptop Batteries Problems | 17 Comments

With the wide spread of laptops, consumers have the more demand for laptop batteries. Some of them will buy original laptop batteries at quite an expensive price, while some of them prefer to buy replacement batteries at quite a low price. What if your new dell Vostro 1500 latop battery won’t charge after receiving it? The following troubleshooting steps may be of a little help to solve the problem.

 1.Check the Battery and Connections:

 a. Remove the battery from the laptop. Turn the laptop off and then remove the battery by sliding the triangular or rectangular button on the bottom of the laptop.

 b. Carefully check the connectors on the battery and in the bay to see if there is signs of physical damage.

 c. Check the battery charge by pressing the status button on the battery near the LED’s. The lights indicate the charge status on the battery. Generally speaking, if all the LED’s come on, the battery is fully charged. If only some of the lights come on, the battery is partially charged. However, if there are any lights flashing or blinking, there could be a problem with the battery.

 d. Install the battery properly.

2. Try to charge the vostro 1500 battery in a second computer or charge a second battery.

If you have access to a secomd computer of same model, you may try the battery to see if it could successfully charge. Or you may try to charge a second battery in your laptop. If the second battery still does not charge, the problem may be caused due to the charging system in your laptop.

3. Double check the AC adapter

If the battery could not charge, the problem may also come from the adapter.

4. Flash the BIOS

Flashing the BIOS can correct many hardware issues.

5. Run the Recalibration Utility if your laptop has one. The utility fully discharges the dell laptop battery and then recharges it. The process takes several hours, so it is recommended to run it overnight. Please be noted that use only the recalibration program specified for your laptop.

Several Tips on Extending Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop Battery Life

Posted on August 25, 2010
Filed Under Dell Laptop Batteries Using Tips | 1 Comment

Install the new battery in your dell laptop and charge it to 100%, then completely discharge it. Re-charge it again to 100% to make the laptop remember how much electrical charge the battery can hold. From then on, you’ll never need to completely discharge the dell inspiron 6400 battery again, but always make sure when charging it that you let it reach 100 percent. Some experts suggest that the AC adapter be plugged whenever there is a chance. Also, the battery should be kept cool, because exposure to high temperatures can be a battery’s worst enemy.

Defragmenting your hard drive regularly, because it optimizes the placement of data on the drive so that it can be found more quickly. Decrease hard drive activity to minimize the frequency with which your hard disk has to spin up to access data.

Startup items load into memory every time when Windows boots up, which causes other open applications to spill over into virtual memory and adds to the CPU load. You can disable the startup options by opening the associated programs and going to the Options or Preferences menu. You can also remove them from the Start/Programs/Startup folder or by clicking Start/Run, entering C:MSCONFIG, and clicking OK. Select the Startup tab and clear the checkbox beside any unnecessary background items.

The external devices use your dell inspiron 6400 battery even when you are not using them. Remove them if you can. Even a memory card reader in your PC-MCIA slot uses power just by being in there. The effect varies based on the type of device, but even a few minutes here and there add up significantly. Many new notebooks provide a hard-wired On/Off switch for the Wi-Fi radio for this reason. Beyond that, you should go to the Control Panel, select System/Hardware/Device Manager, and disable the Ethernet adapter, infrared transceiver, and Bluetooth radio (if your notebook has one). It was designed for mobile devices, but having Bluetooth enabled actually consumes quite a bit of power.

To extend your dell laptop battery life, you can also try to power down the display when the laptop is not being used. In addition, lowering the screen resolution and color depth decreases the workload on the GPU, thus extending the battery runtime. You can change these by going to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Display and clicking the Settings tab. Disabling extra features like ClearType fonts and fade effects will cut down on the CPU’s power consumption. You can find these in the Control Panel under System/Advanced/Performance Settings/Visual Effects.

Try to avoid multi-task. The more you are doing at the same time with your PC, the more memory and CPU usage increases. Both of which directly use up the battery. Close any applications you aren’t using, even the small ones.

Hope the above-mentioned tips could be of some help.
